Using AI for SEO: Six SEO Tasks AI Speeds Up and the Check Each One Needs

Using AI for SEO hands the slow parts of SEO work to AI tools while a person keeps the checks that decide rankings. The six jobs AI speeds up are keyword research, content writing, content analysis, internal linking, technical checks and reporting. Google's guidance, updated on 1 October 2026, calls a fact check of AI-generated content critical before it publishes. Aemorph's SEO team uses AI tools in each of these jobs. Each piece then passes three tests before it goes live. Your pages rank in Google and state facts you approved.

AI Speeds Up SEO Work When a Person Checks the Output

AI speeds up the SEO tasks that involve sorting, drafting and summarising, and the person who checks the output decides whether the result helps your rankings or harms them. Google's guidance on generative AI content names two uses where the tools are particularly useful: researching a topic and adding structure to original content. The table sets out where Aemorph puts AI to work in SEO and the check that follows each output.

SEO taskWhat AI speeds upWhat a person checksWhen Aemorph runs the check
Keyword researchGrouping keywords and drafting the questions buyers askEach question against Google Search Console and keyword tool dataBefore the question enters the content plan
Content writingOutlines, first drafts, titles and meta descriptionsEach fact against your approved record, plus the three testsBefore the page publishes
Content analysisComparing your page with the buyer questions and the attributes current answers coverThat each gap is real and worth a sectionBefore the brief is written
Internal linkingShortlisting pages on related topicsThat the link sits in the section whose topic matches the target page, one link per sectionBefore the page publishes
Technical checksRunning prompts across crawl data, such as alt text and meta description draftsEach suggestion before it goes into a specificationBefore your developers implement a change
ReportingSummarising Search Console data and flagging changesEach figure against the source reportBefore the report reaches you

This guide covers AI tools inside SEO work. Aemorph's AI SEO guide covers the other meaning of the term: getting your business named and cited in AI answers.

Does Google penalise content written with the help of AI?

Google does not penalise content for being written with AI; it judges the quality of the content and acts against pages produced at scale without value for users. Google describes its focus as being "on the quality of content, rather than how content is produced" (Google Search Central, 8 February 2023). Its spam policies name the exception: using generative AI tools "to generate many pages without adding value for users" counts as scaled content abuse.

AI Keyword Research Turns a Seed List Into the Questions Your Buyers Ask

AI keyword research turns a short seed list into grouped questions your buyers ask, and search data then confirms which of those questions carry demand. A chat assistant groups keywords by intent, suggests the follow-up questions a buyer asks next and drafts the wording of each one. On its own it has no view of your Search Console data or a keyword tool's search volumes. Aemorph checks each AI-suggested question against Google Search Console and keyword tool data before it enters the content plan, then groups the confirmed questions into prompt clusters, the questions your buyers ask AI. Aemorph's keyword research guide sets out how seed terms, search volumes and intent come together in one plan.

Does AI replace a keyword research tool?

AI does not replace a keyword research tool, because the tool holds the search volumes and rankings and AI supplies the language to group and phrase them. Aemorph uses the three sources side by side: the keyword tool for demand and difficulty, AI for grouping and wording, and Google Search Console for the queries your site already appears for.

AI Drafts Your SEO Content, and a Fact Check Keeps Each Page Accurate

AI drafts your SEO content from a brief, and a person's fact check keeps each page accurate before Google and the AI chats read it. Google's guidance calls it critical to fact-check and review AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing (Google Search Central, updated 1 October 2026). A drafting tool predicts likely text, so a gap in the brief comes back as a plausible guess. OpenAI's help article on whether ChatGPT tells the truth lists "Incorrect definitions, dates, or facts" among its known errors.

Aemorph runs three tests on each piece before it publishes, in each format:

  • Question test: the title matches a question a named buyer asks, in that buyer's words.
  • Evidence test: the piece carries at least one dated, sourced figure or first-party fact that a competitor's page does not.
  • Consistency test: each fact matches your approved facts wherever else you publish them.

Aemorph's AI content and SEO guide shows how an unchecked AI draft carries a wrong fact into AI answers, and the approved record that stops it.

Do AI-written titles and meta descriptions need a check?

AI-written titles and meta descriptions need the same check as the body copy, because they appear in Google's results. Google's guidance applies the review to metadata such as title elements, meta descriptions, structured data and image alt text, which appear in Search results. Aemorph's SEO copywriting guide sets out the length and keyword placement for titles and meta descriptions.

AI Content Analysis Shows Where Your Page Falls Short of the Question

AI content analysis shows where your page falls short of the question it targets, so each rewrite adds what the answer is missing instead of more words. An AI tool compares your page with the list of buyer questions and with the attributes the current answers cover, then lists what your page leaves out. For a page that competes for a Google AI Overview, Aemorph reviews which attributes the AI Overview answer covers, then covers the same attributes on your page in more depth and in fewer words. A person confirms each gap before it becomes a section in the brief. Aemorph's AI Overview competitor displacement guide sets out the full method for a query where Google quotes a competitor instead of you.

How does AI find the content gaps on a page?

AI finds content gaps by comparing the facts and attributes on your page with those in the questions buyers ask and in the answers that already rank. Each gap it lists is a candidate. Aemorph checks it against the live search results and your approved facts before the brief changes.

AI suggests internal links by shortlisting pages on related topics, and a placement rule keeps each link relevant to the section it sits in. Google's link best practices state that good anchor text "is descriptive, reasonably concise, and relevant to the page that it's on and to the page it links to", and ask site owners to give each page they care about a link from at least one other page on the site (Google Search Central, updated 10 December 2025). Aemorph places each internal link inside a sentence that states a fact about the target page, inside the section whose topic matches that page, with one internal link per section at most. An AI tool shortlists candidate pages from a crawl of your site, and a person picks the one link that fits each section. Aemorph's anchor text guide covers the wording of each link.

Aemorph places one internal link in a section at most, so each link points to the one page that matches that section's topic. When an AI tool suggests several links for one section, the closest match stays and the others move to the sections whose topics match them.

AI Runs Technical SEO Checks Across Your Whole Crawl

AI runs technical SEO checks across the pages of a crawl in one pass, and Aemorph's specification turns each confirmed issue into a change your developers implement. Screaming Frog's SEO Spider connects to OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic and Ollama APIs and runs custom prompts against crawl data, for tasks such as drafting alt text and meta descriptions or classifying page intent (Screaming Frog, last modified February 2026). ChatGPT assists with copy, technical analysis and fact-checking, but a ChatGPT draft is not a completed technical SEO implementation or an independent accuracy check. Aemorph writes the specifications; your developers or IT vendor implement them, and Aemorph verifies each change. Aemorph's technical SEO service covers how your site is crawled and read by Google Search and AI crawlers.

Does an AI tool fix technical SEO issues on its own?

An AI tool does not fix technical SEO issues on its own: it flags issues and drafts changes, and the fix ships when your developers implement it and Aemorph verifies it. Alt text and meta description drafts from a crawl go through the same fact check as body copy before they publish.

AI Turns SEO Reporting Into Answers About Your Own Data

AI turns SEO reporting into answers about your own data, and a check against the source report keeps each figure right. Google Search Console's generative AI performance report shows impressions for your site in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, date and device, and it rolled out to websites worldwide as of 31 August 2026 (Google Search Console Help). Google counts traffic from its AI features in the Performance report under the Web search type (Google Search Central). AI tools summarise these reports and flag changes. Aemorph checks each figure against the source report before it reaches you. Aemorph's cluster-level measurement guide shows how Aemorph reports AI visibility by question cluster rather than by single keyword.

Does Search Console show how a site appears in AI Overviews?

Search Console shows how often links to your site appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode through its generative AI performance report. The report counts impressions, leaves out Search Labs experiments and stays hidden for a site with too few impressions in these features.
