DIY GEO and AEO Guide for Singapore: What to Do Yourself, Step by Step, and When to Hire Help

A Singapore business gets named correctly in AI answers through seven steps it runs in-house, described here as of October 2026, and that work happens well before a buyer sends an enquiry or books a call. The team writes down the questions Singapore buyers ask, drafts one verified answer to each and phrases every fact as a plain sentence. Next it lets the AI crawlers in, adds markup to each page, collects confirmation from sites it does not own and puts the answers to the test in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. A writer, a developer and one person who owns the monthly check handle all seven with no agency involved. Outside help pays off at five points, each with a sign that shows up in your own log.

DIY GEO and AEO Covers Four Things Your Singapore Team Controls

A Singapore team that does GEO and AEO itself works on four things it owns outright: its facts, its pages, its crawler settings and its checks. GEO, generative engine optimisation, earns citations and mentions for your business inside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. AEO, answer engine optimisation, gets you quoted in Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, answer boxes and voice search answers. Underneath both sits SEO, search engine optimisation, the work that earns a place in Google's regular results. The engines choose their own sources, beyond any business's reach, so a DIY plan shapes what goes in and checks what comes out.

What a DIY plan controls on each AI answer surface.

GEO Leads a Singapore DIY Plan and AEO Follows

In Aemorph's approach GEO comes first, because the AI chats are where a Singapore buyer requests a shortlist and gets back a written answer with recommendations in it. Engines and modes differ in how they display source links and citations. Both disciplines run on one set of verified facts, so the AEO work for Google's answer surfaces draws on the record the GEO work creates; split them into two projects and the fact-gathering happens twice. In Aemorph's working model, Google's AI Overviews, featured snippets and voice answers lean on pages that give one clear answer, which makes your DIY record the same input that Aemorph's answer engine optimisation (AEO) service works on for Google's answer surfaces.

Three Things Sit Outside a Singapore DIY Plan

A DIY plan has three blind spots: how engines pick their sources, public records that other people edit, and any guarantee on the outcome. Your own pages change whenever you choose. Wikidata is a public database its community edits and the Google Knowledge Graph is Google's system, so a change there does not always stick. No tool or checklist converts a DIY pass into a guaranteed citation.

Singapore Search and AI Adoption: What a DIY Plan Works Within

Almost all Singapore search runs through Google, nearly every resident is online and most workers already use AI tools at work, while AI adoption among SMEs was far below that of larger firms in 2024, so a Singapore DIY plan concentrates on Google's answer surfaces and the four AI chats. Google held 92.16% of search engine market share in Singapore in September 2026 and Bing 4.53% (StatCounter). With that share, Google Search Console carries most of the search data a Singapore team reads each month.

The Seven Steps a Singapore Business Does Itself, With the Check for Each

Seven steps, taken in sequence, carry a Singapore team from the questions its buyers ask to a dated test showing whether AI names the business, and every step closes with a check the team runs unaided. An engine answers from what it has learned and retrieved about a business across a wide set of sources, and your website is just one. In Aemorph's method, the number of pages is not what makes a business ready for citation; one clear, verified answer to each buyer question is. The sentence rule behind step 3 is explained where Aemorph writes each business fact the way a machine reads it.

1. List the buyer questionsWrite down each fact a Singapore buyer wants confirmed: services, problems solved, audiences, credentials, locations, delivery formats, and the showstopper questions on price, trust, fit, risk and timingThe owner or marketing lead, working with a subject expertCount how many questions already have one clear answer on a page or recordEach listed question has an answer, or a named gapAemorph's full-coverage entity-attribute method

The seven DIY steps and the check for each.

The Record: Buyer Questions, Verified Answers and Fact Sentences

Steps 1 to 3 produce your verified record, the facts your business supplies and approves, and most DIY effort belongs there because each later step repeats it. Every fact has three parts: the business, something true about it, and the specific detail. Aemorph sorts those facts into ten areas of a business, from services through to the surfaces where buyers find it, and a Singapore team works from the same list: Aemorph's entity-attribute methodology lists each fact a buyer wants confirmed.

Three tests tell you the DIY record is ready. It:

  • Answers each buyer question once, on the page where a buyer expects to find it.
  • Agrees with itself, so no two pages put one fact in different words.
  • Names a person who approves each answer before it goes live.

A showstopper question is a buyer objection question that stops a purchase when an AI assistant answers it badly. Put those questions, on price, trust, fit, risk and timing, at the top of the list, because a wrong answer there puts a sale at risk.

Access and Markup: Crawlers, Text and Structured Data

Steps 4 and 5 let the engines read your record, and all four engine operators publish the crawler names a site allows or blocks in robots.txt. OpenAI keeps search and training as separate settings: OpenAI's crawler documentation lists OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and ChatGPT-User: allowing OAI-SearchBot gives ChatGPT search access, disallowing GPTBot opts the site out of the training crawl, and OpenAI itself decides what search includes and cites. According to OpenAI, a robots.txt change takes about 24 hours to reach its search systems.

Google's answer surfaces need ordinary search eligibility and nothing extra. In its guidance on AI features and websites, Google states that a page shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode is indexed and eligible for a snippet, and that the features carry no additional technical requirements (Google Search Central, updated 10 December 2025). Text-form content, and structured data that matches the visible text, appear on that page among the basics.

Letting a crawler in makes a page eligible, not cited. Schema.org markup on webpages is code that labels your facts for search engines: Google documents how it uses that markup for rich results in Search, and OpenAI, Perplexity and Anthropic have not confirmed that their assistants use Schema.org markup on webpages.

Corroboration and Evidence: What Published Research Says Earns a Citation

Published research backs steps 6 and 7, and two papers give a Singapore team outside evidence on what earns a citation. The first ran content changes against a benchmark of 10,000 queries and reported visibility gains in generative engine responses of up to 40%, and up to 37% on Perplexity: the GEO study by Aggarwal and colleagues, KDD 2024. The second, a preprint from September 2025, found that AI search shows "a systematic and overwhelming bias towards Earned media (third-party, authoritative sources) over Brand-owned and Social content" (the preprint by Chen and colleagues, arXiv 2509.08919).

Each paper reports test-condition results across many queries, not results for one business, and neither paper establishes a Singapore-specific performance result. Together they point to two DIY priorities: write claims a reader verifies against a named source, and get the same facts confirmed on Singapore sites you do not own, from trade associations to the local business press.

The Checks to Run: From One Prompt to a Cluster Across Four Engines

Checking DIY GEO and AEO work happens on three levels, rising from the site's access and markup, through a prompt test of each buyer question, to a cluster report across the four AI chats and Google's answer surfaces, and only the upper two tell you whether AI names your Singapore business. Stopping at level one tells a team its pages pass the access checks and tells it nothing about what the engines say. The four chat engines are the surfaces where Aemorph's generative engine optimisation service builds citation, and a team working alone uses the same three levels.

LevelWhat you testUnitWhat it showsWhat it misses
1. Access and markupRobots.txt rules, indexing, text-form content and structured dataOne pageWhether the page passes the initial access, indexing and text-format checks, and what a live request returnsWhat any engine says about the business
2. Prompt testEach buyer question in each of the four chat enginesOne question in one engineWhether the answer names the business and states its facts correctlyOther wordings of the question, and variation between sessions
3. Cluster reportThe share of a defined set of related questions that name the businessOne cluster of buyer questionsCoverage across a buying decision, engine by engine, over timeQuestions outside the defined set

Three levels of DIY checking.

Level One: The Access and Markup Checks

Level one relies on files and tools the team already has, and it comes ahead of any prompt test. Take the checks in this order:

  • Open /robots.txt and check the rule for each search crawler; Anthropic states that its bots honour robots.txt, in Anthropic's article on its web crawlers, updated 7 April 2026.
  • Wait roughly a day before testing a robots.txt change, since OpenAI gives about 24 hours for its systems to adjust.
  • Confirm in Google Search Console that each key page is indexed, and in Google that it shows a snippet.
  • Read each key page with scripts turned off, to see whether the answer holds up as plain text.
  • Validate the structured data and match its values to the visible sentence.
  • Request each key page as a live visitor and note the response status, any block from a security layer such as a firewall or content delivery network, and the answer text that comes back.

Level Two: The Prompt Test in Four Engines

Of all the DIY checks, the prompt test counts most, because it reveals whether the AI chats name your business: ask the four engines each buyer question and record each reply. Aemorph's own test prompts follow four patterns, given as examples: "Best [service] company in Singapore", "Top providers for [category]", "Compare [brand] vs [competitor]" and "Who specialises in [specific problem]". Each log entry records the date, the engine and whether the session was logged out, and marks whether the answer:

  • Names your business anywhere in the reply, which counts as a mention.
  • Recommends your business as an option to act on, which counts for more than a passing mention.
  • States your facts as your website states them, with nothing wrong, out of date or missing.

A dated entry from Aemorph's own log looks like this: in a logged-out ChatGPT session on 4 August 2026, ChatGPT cited Aemorph 3 to 4 times and named it as a source across four queries, "PSG SEO Singapore" among them. It records what one session showed on one date, not the result of any named piece of work. The paid version of the test is the AI Hallucination Diagnostic, which tests a sample of 10 to 20 of a business's showstopper questions across the same four engines.

Level Three: The Cluster Report and the Search Data

A cluster report condenses the prompt log into a single number for each buying decision: the share of tested answers in a prompt cluster, a defined set of related buyer questions, that name your business. An illustrative line reads "named in 7 of 10 tracked questions, up from 4 of 10". Aemorph reports to its clients in the same form, and Aemorph's guide to cluster-level measurement for AEO and GEO sets out the four steps.

Two free reports from the search engines fill in what a prompt log misses. In Singapore, where Google held 92.16% of search engine market share in September 2026, Google's report carries most of the weight: Google counts traffic from its AI features inside the Search Console Performance report, under the Web search type (Google Search Central, updated 10 December 2025). Bing Webmaster Tools added an AI Performance report in public preview on 10 February 2026, covering Microsoft Copilot and AI-generated summaries in Bing, with total citations, average cited pages, grounding queries, page-level citation activity and visibility trends over time: Microsoft's announcement of AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Clicks undercount AI visibility. Pew Research's March 2025 study of 900 US adults found that users clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits to a search page with an AI summary, against 15% without one, and clicked a source cited inside the summary in 1% of visits: Pew Research Center's analysis of clicks on search pages with an AI summary, 22 July 2025. It is a US study, and it draws no conclusion about searchers in Singapore.

When DIY Is Enough, and the Five Points Where It Stops

For a Singapore team with a writer, a developer who ships fixes and one named owner of the monthly check, DIY GEO and AEO is enough, so help is worth paying for only where your log shows a gap, and DIY runs out at five points. Picking a monitoring tool is its own decision, and the comparison of an AEO and GEO agency with DIY tools goes through it capability by capability.

Seven DIY Errors That Recur in Singapore In-House Teams

Seven errors keep turning up in in-house work and cost visibility, and a Singapore team sidesteps each of them without an agency. An in-house team:

  • Picks topics by keyword volume, ahead of relevance to the business and the connections between its facts.
  • Publishes thin articles that each cover one narrow query.
  • Treats the work as blogging, with no site architecture behind it.
  • Measures rankings and nothing else, with no reading of leads or topic coverage.
  • Rewrites pages repeatedly before it has read the search intent.
  • Relies on AI writing tools and skips subject-expert review.
  • Leaves core commercial pages without supporting content or internal links.

Two technical mistakes sit alongside them. One is markup for facts the page never shows; Google's structured data guidelines tell site owners not to add structured data about information that is not visible to the user. The other is blocking Google-Extended on the belief that it takes a site out of AI Overviews; Google's crawler documentation states that Google-Extended does not affect a site's inclusion in Google Search.

What Hiring Help in Singapore Costs Is a Separate Question

What help costs is a different decision from whether to do the work yourself, because the five points measure capacity and risk, not budget. Dated market prices from Singapore agencies, beside Aemorph's own starting points, are in the AEO and GEO cost guide for Singapore. Singapore SMEs also have a grant route: Aemorph offers pre-approved Digital Marketing Booster Packages under the EDGE Grant, described on the EDGE packages page; the Hallucination Diagnostic, Sprint 1, Sprint 2 and the monthly packages are not grant packages.

Aemorph's Route From DIY to Hired Help

Aemorph fits the help to the gap your log shows: the route opens with two free tools, continues through Leveraged & Scalable, Aemorph's community, for businesses below about S$5M in revenue, and leaves Sprint 1 and Sprint 2 open to any business of any size. An enterprise or established business at about S$5M and above begins with a free strategic conversation.

No route has to come before another, and a Sprint bought on its own begins with the free strategic conversation. On the enterprise route the strategic conversation leads to the AEO-GEO Audit or ESAG audit, then the Influencer Blueprint, Aemorph's SEO strategy and roadmap, then Attain or Apex, with the Showstopper Sensor (Sprint 1) and Entity Hardening (Sprint 2) delivered inside the engagement.

The Two Free Tools Come First

For a Singapore business below about S$5M, the two free tools are the first step, and both sit on tools.aemorph.com. The free Hallucination Report sets the LLMs' answers against what your site says now, and it uses no showstopper questions. The free Money on the Table audit, Aemorph's SEO audit that counts the revenue, works from five inputs: search volume in Singapore for your services, your competitors, what those competitors rank for, the expected click-through rate and your average revenue per sale.

For a Singapore business below about S$5M that does its own work, Aemorph recommends Leveraged & Scalable, Aemorph's community. You bring the team's time; the community brings the skills, tools and access. Aemorph takes a small number onto Awaken, its done-for-you package. The two revenue bands, and the route open at any size, are laid out where Aemorph sorts business size into routes around one threshold.

Sprint 1 Publishes the Approved Answers, With a Guarantee

Sprint 1, the Showstopper Sensor, is open to a business of any size, and it steps in once your answers are right on your website but still wrong in the engines. Your nominated point of contact approves the answers, and Aemorph then publishes them as the LLM info page on your site. Sprint 1 produces no llms.txt and leaves core pages as they are. The full scope is on the page for the Showstopper Sensor, the 30-day Sprint 1 engagement.

Bought on its own, the Showstopper Sensor (Sprint 1) carries the Ground Truth Guarantee, Aemorph's AI accuracy guarantee. The Ground Truth Guarantee: within 30 days of publishing, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity answer your showstopper questions with the facts in your Brand Codex. If they do not, Aemorph refunds 100% of your Sprint 1 fee and keeps working on the answers for a further 60 days, 90 days in total.

Terms: the Ground Truth Guarantee covers Sprint 1 bought on its own; Sprint 1 inside a monthly package carries no refund; it does not cover Sprint 2 (Entity Hardening), search rankings or Google AI Overviews. Full terms

Sprint 2 Builds the Technical Layer, Including llms.txt

Sprint 2, Entity Hardening, is open to a business of any size, and it delivers both the extended LLM info page and the llms.txt index. Aemorph writes the specifications and files, your developers or IT vendor put them in place, and Aemorph checks the result. The two Sprints together produce the Brand Codex, your brand fact sheet and the single source of truth for what AI says about you.

Treat llms.txt as optional infrastructure. Jeremy Howard first published it as a proposal on 3 September 2024: a Markdown file that hands AI agents a short index of a site, set out in the llms.txt proposal. Google states that AI Overviews and AI Mode need no new machine-readable files or AI text files (Google Search Central, updated 10 December 2025), and ChatGPT, Perplexity and Anthropic have not confirmed that they read llms.txt.

The Monthly DIY GEO and AEO Log Shows When to Bring In Help

After a DIY GEO and AEO pass, your monthly log points to the next move: close the gaps yourselves and keep going, or bring in help at the point that matches the gap holding your Singapore visibility back. A strategic conversation with Aemorph costs nothing and runs 30 to 60 minutes on a video call, and Aemorph responds within 24 hours to all communication. For a business that wants the answers corrected first, Sprint 1 bought on its own is the standalone start. Aemorph is headquartered at 34 South Bridge Road, Singapore.
