No LLM Citations Fix in Australia: Why the AI Chats Never Cite Your Site, and the Hallucination That Fills the Gap

For an Australian business, no LLM citations means the AI chats answer your buyers' questions without linking to your site, so buyers meet your category through someone else's page. The answer about you then rests on sources you do not control. In Aemorph's working model, an AI chat cites pages it reaches, reads and trusts. Miss one of those three and it answers from other sources, or from memory, where hallucinations start. Aemorph's Hallucination Diagnostic shows which questions go uncited. ChatGPT cited Aemorph in a logged-out session on 4 August 2026.

Missing LLM citations show up when an AI chat answers an Australian buyer's question about your category, or about your business itself, and the links under the answer point to directories, competitors or old articles instead of your pages. The pattern tells you which gate failed, so name it before changing anything.

Symptoms, likely causes and fixes when the AI chats do not cite your Australian site.

Why does ChatGPT not cite my website?

ChatGPT cites an Australian website when its search crawler reaches the page and the page answers the question more clearly than the alternatives, so an uncited site has failed on access, extraction or trust. OpenAI states that sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot are left out of ChatGPT search answers, though they still appear as navigational links (OpenAI, checked October 2026). Access is the first gate to check.

ChatGPT is one platform of several, and LLM platform citation failures explains why each AI chat cites your business differently.

LLM Citations Depend on Access, Extraction and Trust

Your Australian pages earn LLM citations when three conditions hold together: the crawler reaches the page, the page states the answer in text an AI chat extracts, and the facts agree with what other sources say about you. That is Aemorph's working model, built from the crawler documentation each AI company publishes and from Aemorph's testing. A page the crawler never reached plays no part in the answer. For the trust gate, Aemorph's Resonance Network gets independent sources to confirm your facts.

Does blocking AI crawlers stop your site being cited?

Blocking an AI company's search crawler takes your pages out of that company's search answers, while blocking only its training crawler leaves search citations open. Check each crawler by name, because the choice about training and the choice about citations are separate decisions.

Which AI crawlers decide whether your site is cited?

Search crawlers decide citations: OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User for Claude, PerplexityBot for Perplexity, and Google's own crawler for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode in Australia. Training crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot feed future models, not today's citations.

Australian Buyers Meet AI Answers on Google, Bing and the AI Chats

Australian buyers search mainly on Google, and Bing holds close to a tenth of searches, so a page missing from either index misses citations in Google's AI answers and in the AI chats that search the web. Google held 87.87% of search engine market share in Australia in September 2026 and Bing 9.19% (StatCounter).

ADM+S found that 45.6% of Australian adults had recently used a generative AI tool, so an uncited page loses ground with a large group of Australian buyers. Aemorph's tracking for Australian clients includes Bing Webmaster Tools alongside Google Search Console.

The No-Citation Fix Opens Access, Then Gives the AI Chats a Page Worth Quoting

The no-citation fix earns your Australian pages a place in the answer by working through the three gates in order, because extraction work on a page the crawler never reaches changes nothing. GEO, generative engine optimisation, is the discipline that gets you cited inside the AI chats. It rests on SEO, search engine optimisation, which gets your pages crawled and indexed. It works alongside AEO, answer engine optimisation, which gets you quoted in Google AI Overviews. Aemorph runs the fix as a sequence:

  1. Audits robots.txt, firewall and CDN bot rules against each AI company's published crawler names, and writes the change specification your team or vendor applies.
  2. Confirms your key pages are indexed in both search engines Australians use, through Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
  3. Rewrites the answering sentence on each key page as one plain, bold statement under a heading phrased as the buyer asks it, drafted by Aemorph for your approval.
  4. Adds the numbers, dates and sources that make each claim checkable.
  5. Publishes your approved answers to your showstopper questions, the buyer questions that stop a purchase when AI answers them badly, as the LLM info page on your site.
  6. Confirms the same facts on outside sources through the Resonance Network, Aemorph's digital PR and third-party citations.
  7. Retests the same questions on each AI chat and records which sources each answer cites on the test date.

ChatGPT cited Aemorph and named it as a source in a logged-out session on 4 August 2026, a dated observation of one engine. Aemorph runs the same GEO practice on its own brand that it runs for Australian client brands. Calyx.sg is cited in generative engines for multiple prompts covering its core services, and Aemorph's GEO service sets out how that work runs.

How do I get ChatGPT to cite my website?

ChatGPT cites your website more readily when OAI-SearchBot is allowed, your key pages are indexed in Google and Bing, and each answer sits in one plain sentence backed by facts other sources confirm. Then retest the same questions, because a citation is the AI chat's decision on the day it answers.

Uncited Pages Leave the Hallucination Gap Open

An uncited page leaves the answer about your Australian business to other sources and to the AI chat's memory, so each gap is a place where a wrong fact reaches your buyer. The sources the AI chats pick are not the ones Google ranks. Across 15,000 prompts, Ahrefs found that 12% of links cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot appeared in Google's top 10 for the same prompt (Ahrefs, 2025). A strong ranking in Australian search does not secure the citation.

Risk level and recheck point for each citation state on an Australian site, as illustrative scenarios.

Aemorph sets no fixed recheck interval. Your first working day with Aemorph is the first check date, and pages are then assigned for update in order of importance: bottom-of-funnel, middle-of-funnel, then top-of-funnel.

A mention without a link still puts your name on an Australian buyer's shortlist, but it leaves the facts in the answer to whichever source the AI chat cited. The link matters because it decides whose wording the buyer reads and where they click next.

Citation Fixes Follow Each Platform's Published Rules

Each change made to win AI citations for an Australian site follows the crawler rules the AI companies publish and shows people and crawlers the same content, so your visibility rests on a footing the platforms accept. Google's spam policies treat cloaking, showing search engines different content from what users see, as a violation, and the same principle keeps your AI citations defensible.

For an Australian business, allowing a training crawler is a decision about how your content is used, and it sits apart from allowing the search crawlers that decide citations. Aemorph sets out both options and changes nothing until you sign off. Aemorph takes the facts you supply as true and correct, and publishes only what your nominated point of contact approves.

Is it safe to allow AI crawlers on your site?

Allowing the search crawlers of the AI chats makes your public pages eligible for citation, and it opens only the public pages a search engine already reads. Training crawlers are a separate choice. A question about licensing or content rights in Australia is one for a qualified Australian legal adviser.

The Showstopper Sensor Gives the AI Chats Your Answers to Cite

The citation gap closes for an Australian business when you know which buyer questions the AI chats answer without you and publish the approved answers they need on your own site. The Hallucination Diagnostic tests a sample of 10 to 20 showstopper questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, depending on the size and complexity of your business, with the report delivered in 5 business days and presented on a call in Australian business hours.

Bought on its own, the Showstopper Sensor (Sprint 1), a 30-day showstopper-answer sprint for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, includes the Diagnostic and publishes your signed-off answers as the LLM info page on your site. On the enterprise route, Sprint 1 runs inside Attain or Apex after the audit and the Influencer Blueprint. Sprint 1 does not correct public records; Entity Hardening (Sprint 2), Aemorph's technical entity SEO sprint, audits your Wikidata and Google Knowledge Graph entries. The Diagnostic bought on its own carries no guarantee.

Buy the Showstopper Sensor (Sprint 1) on its own and it carries the Ground Truth Guarantee, an AI accuracy guarantee. The Ground Truth Guarantee: within 30 days of publishing, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity answer your showstopper questions with the facts in your Brand Codex. If they do not, Aemorph refunds 100% of your Sprint 1 fee and keeps working on the answers for a further 60 days, 90 days in total.

Terms: the Ground Truth Guarantee covers Sprint 1 bought on its own; Sprint 1 inside a monthly package carries no refund; it does not cover Sprint 2 (Entity Hardening), search rankings or Google AI Overviews. Full terms
