# What to Look for in an AEO and GEO Agency in Australia: 10 Questions to Ask Before You Hire (Buyer's Checklist 2027)

**For an Australian business deciding how to choose an SEO agency that also handles AI answers, the question that sorts strong AEO and GEO agencies from weak ones is what the guarantee covers: whether your business shows up in an AI answer, or whether that answer states your facts correctly.** Price is the easiest number to compare across proposals, and it tells you what the engagement costs. It says nothing about what happens when ChatGPT or a Google AI Overview describes your business wrongly. Ten direct questions, put to every agency on your shortlist, close that gap.

## Ten Direct Questions Reveal Whether an Australian Agency Fits

**Ten direct questions show whether an AEO and GEO agency fits your Australian business before any budget is committed, and a capable agency answers most of them on the first call.** A vague or redirected answer is information in its own right. The questions cover two services built on a third. [AEO](https://aemorph.com/en-au/glossary/#aeo-answer-engine-optimisation) (answer engine optimisation) gets you quoted in Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, answer boxes and voice search answers. [GEO](https://aemorph.com/en-au/glossary/#geo-generative-engine-optimisation) (generative engine optimisation) earns citations and mentions for your business inside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. Both rest on [SEO](https://aemorph.com/en-au/glossary/#seo-search-engine-optimisation) (search engine optimisation), which earns your place in the regular results of Google and Bing.

| # | Area | Question | What a good answer looks like | Red flag |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Guarantee | What exactly does your guarantee cover? | One named outcome, in writing: a percentage, a deadline or a factual-accuracy standard | "We guarantee results", with no measure attached |
| 2 | Citation proof | Will you show me an AI citation on request? | A named business cited in ChatGPT, Gemini or a Google AI Overview, shown live or as a dated capture with its prompt and session conditions | No example, or a screenshot with no date, prompt or session details |
| 3 | Pricing | Are your starting prices published, or only revealed after a sales call? | Published starting points, then a dated, written quote for your engagement | No published figure and no written quote before the contract |
| 4 | Measurement | Do you report on whole content clusters or on single keywords? | Reports grouped by topic and prompt clusters, with ranking reports beside them | Rank tracking built only around individual keywords |
| 5 | GEO timing | Is GEO planned from day one, or held back until months of SEO are done? | AI-chat visibility work planned from day one beside the other work, live once the changes are implemented | GEO withheld until an SEO audit clears, with no AI-visibility work in between |
| 6 | Contract | What is the term, and how do I leave? | A stated term, a stated minimum and a stated cancellation notice period, in writing | A long lock-in with no stated minimum and no stated notice period |
| 7 | Methodology | Do you describe your method, or call it "AI optimisation"? | A named process, explained step by step | Vague language with no described method |
| 8 | Compliance | How do you handle the rules of a regulated Australian industry? | A named process for checking claims, with your sign-off before anything publishes | No mention of compliance, or a generic answer that ignores your industry |
| 9 | Delivery team | Who does the work: an in-house team or a subcontractor? | The people assigned to your campaign, introduced by name | A deflection on who performs the work |
| 10 | Corrections | What happens if an AI engine states a fact about my business incorrectly? | A defined correction process with a stated timeline | No process, or "that is out of our control" |

*Ten questions to put to any AEO and GEO agency in Australia before you sign.*

### What to Look for in an AEO and GEO Agency in Australia

**Look for five things you confirm before signing, not promises that arrive after it.** A capable agency:

- **Names** one specific guarantee and puts it in writing.
- **Shows** a citation from a real AI engine when you ask, live or as a dated capture.
- **Publishes** starting prices and gives you a dated, written quote.
- **Measures** results across a whole topic cluster rather than one keyword at a time.
- **Explains** its methodology step by step.

An agency that answers all five gives you evidence to weigh. An agency that answers none of them asks you to trust it with nothing to check.

## Why These 10 Matter for Australian Buyers

**The guarantee question carries the most weight because it tells you what the money buys: buyers seeing your business, or buyers reading correct facts about it.** Each AI engine answers from what it has learned and retrieved about your business across many sources, and your website is one of them. A presence guarantee checks that your business appears in the answer. A truth guarantee checks that what the answer says about your business is correct. Both are real measures, and they measure different things. A business is easy to find in an answer and still described wrongly, and a presence guarantee does not catch that.

Three of the ten do most of the sorting: guarantee, citation proof and methodology. A named method lets you judge whether the work builds on itself or starts again at every renewal. Citation proof from more than one engine matters because ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews each answer from their own model and retrieved sources, so a correct description in one engine says nothing about the next.

### How Large Is the Audience Behind These Questions in Australia?

**Worldwide, Google AI Overviews passed 2 billion monthly users by July 2025, and Gartner found that B2B buyers spend only 17% of their buying time meeting potential suppliers.** Google put the reach of that one AI surface at [over 2 billion monthly Google AI Overviews users across more than 200 countries and territories and 40 languages as of July 2025](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/message-ceo/alphabet-earnings-q2-2025/) (Google, 2025). These are worldwide figures, and a single citation on a single surface does not show coverage across the engines and searches your Australian buyers use. Gartner research from 2020 found that [B2B buyers typically spend only 17% of their time meeting with potential suppliers when they are considering a purchase](https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2020-09-15-gartner-says-80--of-b2b-sales-interactions-between-su), and a Gartner sales survey published on 25 June 2025 found that [61% of B2B buyers prefer an overall rep-free buying experience](https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-06-25-gartner-sales-survey-finds-61-percent-of-b2b-buyers-prefer-a-rep-free-buying-experience). Neither Gartner study is specific to Australia. They show why the guarantee matters: in independent research, the facts a buyer meets are correct or wrong before any supplier conversation starts.

| Statistic | Figure | Who it measures | Date | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Google AI Overviews monthly users | Over 2 billion | Google Search users in more than 200 countries and territories | July 2025 | Google, Alphabet Q2 2025 earnings remarks, 23 Jul 2025 |
| Share of B2B buyers' time spent meeting potential suppliers when considering a purchase | 17% | B2B buyers, not Australia-specific | 2020 | Gartner press release, 15 Sep 2020 |
| B2B buyers preferring an overall rep-free buying experience | 61% | 632 B2B buyers, surveyed August to September 2024 | Published 2025 | Gartner sales survey, 25 Jun 2025 |

### Do AEO and GEO Agencies in Australia Guarantee Results?

**AEO and GEO guarantees differ in what they measure, so the useful question is not whether an agency guarantees results but which result it puts in writing: presence in an answer, a ranking position, effort against milestones, or the accuracy of what the answer says.** This page names no Australian agency's terms, because Aemorph holds no dated, verified Australian quotations to cite. The table sets out the four guarantee types you meet in proposals and what each one leaves untested.

| Guarantee type | What it tests | What it leaves untested | What to ask for in writing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Presence guarantee | Whether your business appears in AI answers, for example against a share-of-voice target | Whether the facts in those answers are correct | The prompts, engines and dates the target is measured on |
| Ranking guarantee | Whether a share of keywords reaches page one of Google | AI answers, and the accuracy of what they say | The keyword list, the measurement date and the remedy if the target is missed |
| Effort commitment | Whether agreed milestones and tasks are delivered | Any outcome in search or AI answers | The milestone list and how a missed milestone is handled |
| Truth guarantee | Whether named AI engines answer your buyers' questions with your approved facts | Rankings and any engine the guarantee does not name | The engines covered, the questions tested, the deadline and the refund terms |

**The Ground Truth Guarantee: within 30 days of publishing, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity answer your showstopper questions with the facts in your Brand Codex. If they do not, Aemorph refunds 100% of your Sprint 1 fee and keeps working on the answers for a further 60 days, 90 days in total.** It applies to the [Showstopper Sensor (Sprint 1)](https://aemorph.com/en-au/glossary/#showstopper-sensor-sprint-1), a 30-day showstopper-answer sprint for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, bought on its own.

## Australian Search Figures Behind the Checklist

**Google held 87.9% of search engine market share in Australia in September 2026 and Bing held 9.17% (StatCounter), so this checklist asks for reporting on both engines as well as on AI answers.** Google AI Overviews rolled out across Australia on 29 October 2024, and Google began rolling out AI Mode in Australia, in English, on 8 October 2025. In a national survey published on 5 November 2025, 45.6% of more than 5,500 Australian adults had recently used a generative AI tool. Aemorph verifies Australian client sites in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and Bing Webmaster Tools is part of tracking for Australian clients.

| Measure | Figure | Market and date | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Google search engine market share | 87.9% | Australia, September 2026 | StatCounter |
| Bing search engine market share | 9.17% | Australia, September 2026 | StatCounter |
| Google AI Overviews | Rolled out Australia-wide | Australia, 29 October 2024 | Google Australia |

## Red Flags to Reject in an Australian Agency Pitch

**Four patterns in a pitch mark a weak engagement at any price, and any one of them is reason enough to keep looking before you commit an Australian budget.** In Aemorph's observation of the AI-visibility market, each of the four hides a cost or a risk that the pitch never states outright. A weak agency:

- **Locks** you into a long contract with no stated point at which you leave without a penalty.
- **Hides** its method, with no step-by-step account of how the work is done.
- **Promises** vague "AI optimisation" with no named deliverable, surface or measure attached.
- **Fails** to show a citation from a real AI engine, live or as a dated capture with its prompt, and offers a mocked-up screenshot instead.

### What Questions to Ask an AEO Agency in Australia

**Put the same ten questions to every agency on your shortlist, on guarantee, citation proof, pricing, measurement, GEO timing, contract, methodology, compliance, delivery team and corrections, and treat a redirected answer on any one of them as a red flag in itself.** A capable agency answers each one directly, and in writing, before you sign.

### What Does the ACCC Expect of the Claims in an Agency Proposal?

**The ACCC states that any claim a business makes about its products or services has to be accurate, truthful and based on reasonable grounds, and it names a quotation among the communications that rule covers.** A projected ranking, traffic figure or AI-visibility result in a proposal is a claim about the future, and the ACCC states that a business making a claim about future matters, including predictions or projections, has to have reasonable grounds for it at the time it makes the claim. The ACCC also states that, in some circumstances, failing to disclose information is misleading, and that information in fine print is not to conflict with the overall message of an advertisement. Ask each agency for the grounds behind every projection in writing, check that the guarantee's exclusions sit in the proposal itself, and keep the proposal with the contract. The [ACCC and Australian Consumer Law guide](https://aemorph.com/en-au/guides/accc-australian-consumer-law-marketing/) covers the same rule as it applies to your own marketing copy.
